Education is great, but what about the real world?
My editing chops are road tested. I've spent years working with subject matter experts in firms translating industry jargon into client-ready documents. I've also worked directly with clients and know that budgets and deadlines are real.
Editing is nice, but what about writing?
Glad you asked. I started writing for public audiences when I nabbed a spot on my high school's newspaper in 2004. Since then, I spent years studying English in college, wrote a good deal of content for consulting services, managed email campaigns for the local branch of a large bank, and spent two years at a digital agency. Alongside agency life, I continued working freelance projects to keep my skills sharp.
You mentioned something about email?
Yes, yes. Email. Businesses love to send them, and, if you are doing it right, your customers love to open them. I started my email experience using Salesforce in the heavily regulated industry of finance. From there, I used MailChimp to manage email campaigns for a local not-for-profit and assisted with building and managing ongoing campaigns for small business. I've since widened my experience to Klaviyo.
What about social media?
I do have experience working with Facebook, Instagram, and Amazon Posts (that counts as social media too, right?). I can work in this area in a pinch, but to be honest, it's not my favorite.
Do you speak SEO?
Google and Amazon! But not the tech side. That's just not my jam. I thrive in crisp, customer-ready content that makes search engines happy.
